Saturday 21st May saw the Annual Luctonians Senior Players Dinner & Awards take place at Mortimer Park

A variety of players and members were recognised for their contributions to the club over the course of the 2021-22 season.

Luctonians RMS Colts

Joff Bemand, Colts Coach, kicked off the proceedings with a recap of another great RMS Colts season. First up was their achievement of getting through to the National Colts Cup Quarter-Finals, followed by their spectacular away win against Ledbury in the North Midlands Colts Cup Final, retaining the Stan Whitfield Cup for the third season running. If that wasn’t enough, they then went on to retain the title of North Midlands Colts League Champions.

Joff and Allan Watkins, standing in for the Colts Captain Cam Tudge, displayed the Silverware.

Luctonians 1st XV

Head Coach, Ryan Watkins gave a detailed account of the season, in which the Firsts finished up in eighth position, in the top half of National League 2 North in what is its final season. This was a great achievement, especially when we had such a large number of young players, many of whom were making their debut in a National League. The future certainly looks good.

Ryan then went on to present the four awards, to two players, each receiving a brace of silverware.
Sam Jones was awarded Player of the Year and Top Try Scorer, with Ben Link being awarded Players’ Player and Most Improved Player.

Luctonians Clubman of the Year

Luctonians Chairman, Dickie Williams, spoke of the high regard in which the Club holds it’s volunteers, naming many who contributed so much, and had done for many years. One of those, and the one that has supported and grown the 3rd XV into what it is today is Graham Rutherford. Graham, or ‘Falcon’ as he is known, has been a valued club First Aider for many years, and later stepped up to the role of Third Team Manager, helping to move them from strength-to-strength and, in so doing, facilitating players into the 2nd XV.
Graham Rutherford is our Clubman of the Year 2021-22.

However, his tenure has come to an end and a new Captain has been selected and, to the approbation of players and supporters alike, the 1st XV Captain for the coming seasons is JOE WHITE.
