Hereford Company of Bowmen
for those who want to learn about archery, shoot competitively or just enjoy drawing the bow for fun.
Hereford Company of Bowmen is one of four archery clubs in the County of Herefordshire. The club forms part of the Herefordshire Archery Association (HAA) and is affiliated to the West Midlands Archery Society (WMAS) and to Archery GB, which is the National body.
The club is extremely fortunate in being able to use the sports field at Luctonians all year round and the Credenhill Social Club as an indoor venue during the winter months.
History
Herefordshire has a long tradition of archery dating back to before the great medieval battles of Crecy (1346), Poitiers (1356) and Agincourt (1415).
In fact there is more than one estate in the area build on the spoils won at Agincourt.
After the more blood thirsty times past into distant memory, archery become more of a pass-time. Again Herefordshire embraced this and in fact the county hosts the forth oldest surviving archery society in the country dating back almost 200 years.
Hereford Company of Bowmen may not be quite that old but it does continue the custom of providing a place for people to draw “the bent stick”, as the English longbow is often called, as well as the more modern forms, the recurve, as shot at the Olympics, and the compound bow.

Training
The Club is organised by a small team of hard working committee members, purely on a voluntary basis, with the assistance of all Club members.

Winter
During the winter (October to March) the club shoots indoor at Credenhill Social Club on 3 Wednesdays a month from 7pm-9pm.
Shoots
On a number of Sundays our members represent the club at both county shoots and at shoots in other parts of the country
