ON A SUPERB PLAYING SURFACE, LUCS TOOK CINDY APART
Luctonians RFC vs Cinderford RFC
Saturday 12th September 2026 – Mortimer Park
Match Report by Geoff Vickress
With a warm, but strong wind blowing across the park, and on a superb playing surface Luctonians took Cinderford apart. Early Cinderford pressure came to no avail as Lucs defended their line despite conceding a couple of penalties and, when they started their scoring, there was no let up.
Bryn Goodall, who had a fine game playing today at flyhalf instead of fullback, dotted down to start the scoreboard rolling after 7 minutes, but missed the conversion to, lead 5-0. Cinderford huffed and puffed and even with Lucs’ John Kelly in the bin after 16 minutes for a yellow, they couldn’t get near the homesides whitewash.
Owien Harriott-Davis was on as a scrum replacement for Kelly, and his power-house running saw him add to the home side tally on 25 minutes for the first of his two tries; Goodall converting (12-0). And, on the half hour, James Mear finished off another fine move when he dived over; Goodall converting for a 19-0 advantage.
Home captain Ben Link used his nous and took a tap-penalty close to the Cinderford tryline and short footed everyone when he dotted down to give the home side a 26-0 lead, with Goodall’s conversion. And he was at the bottom of the trademark Lucs driving maul, this one from 20 metres out, just before half time to increase their lead out to 33-0 at half time with Goodall converting again as part of his match tally of 22 points.
Half Time Score
Luctonians RFC 33 – 0 Cinderford RFC
After the break and with the strong breeze behind them it was expected Cinderford might get back into the game, but Bryn Goodall’s interception after only 44 minutes from half way, saw him crossing the whitewash, converting it himself, which saw the home side stretch their advantage to 40 unanswered points.
The rain then came and the wet ball made flowing rugby difficult, with many knock on infringements which somewhat spoilt the chances of the second half being a spectacle.
Despite this, Lucs were solid throughout and Cinderford could not gain any ground in their attempts to get points on the board. Lucs debutant Ryan Whitnall had a strong debut game at scrum half, and both Charlie Mason and Hari McDermott, when they came on, moulded into the pack seamlessly. Owien Harriott-Davis was at his marauding best when he ran in the final score on 67 minutes, with Cinderford players bouncing off him in full flow, Goodall adding the extras for a final score of 47-0.
